Synopsis
When the osprey finally returned to Scotland and a first successful hatching of two osprey chicks in the summer of 1954 it signaled the permanent return of this migratory bird of prey to Scotland after its senseless persecution in the nineteenth century when it was hunted by the greed and folly of the hunting community. Once widely found across the highlands the osprey's were eventually coaxed back into several locations across the Highlands by ornithologists with backing from the RSPCB. This book provides both a history of the bird's presence and persecution in Scotland and its eventual return essentially to a site on Loch Garten on Speyside.
