The Picts

Published as No. 54 in T&H's Ancient Peoples and Places series, The Picts focuses on their political and ecclesiastical history from the 6th century A.D., to their demise and disappearance in the mid 9th century.

A brief introduction describes how the heterogenous Northern tribes  gradually coalesced into the kingdom of the Picts during the first five centuries of the Christian era and discusses the importance attached to their system of inheritance through the female and their custom of personal tattooing.

Importance is also given to the reign of their King  Oengus, son of Fergus and his remarkable reign when the Picts became the dominant force in the North East. 

There is also a substantial chapter on the the monumental art of the Picts.

Despite being an ex-library book (Liverpool City Libraries) it remains in good condition with the original dustcover present with some sun-fade to the spine and a fold crease along the bottom. Inside there are some library stamps on the publication detail page but otherwise clean and bright pages throughout with just age-related tanning to the paper.
