The Iona Community Story

The Iona Community is an ecumenical Christian movement founded in 1938 by the Rev. George MacLeod, then a minister of the Church of Scotland serving in Govan, Glasgow. MacLeod believed that the Church had become disconnected from ordinary working people, particularly those affected by unemployment and poverty during the inter-war years.

His response was both practical and symbolic. He brought together unemployed craftsmen from Glasgow and trainee ministers to rebuild the ruined buildings of Iona Abbey. Living, working and worshipping together, they sought to demonstrate that Christian faith should unite prayer with social action. This combination of manual labour, worship and community life became the foundation of the Iona Community

This is an ex-library book from the City of Leeds Public library and has the library's handsome bookplate on the inside end-paper. The copy is in excellent condition however the original dustcover is not present.  Inside the pages are bright and clean throughout.
