  • Additional Product Information

Gus Wylie is one of the most well known photographers to have spent time recording life in the Hebrides during the 1970's and 80's. His black and white shots are a seminal record of the changing life in the islands during this period.

The photographs within this book were almost exclusively taken between the summers of 1974 and 1975 when the author felt that life on the Islands would become indelibly changed. In his preface Wylie states " my role... was not to undertake a prejudiced or slanted approach ... but rather to direct my energies toward making a record over a period of twelve months that might, in some small way, provide the basis of an overall image or portrait of the region in the latter half of the twentieth century."

In his notes ( on page 160) the author provides details of the cameras used to produce his images but at the same time emphasising that the content and framing of the images was more important than the mechanics of the cameras themselves.

This is a large book with 148 black and white plates.
