Synopsis
The first edition of this appeared in 1896 to mark the centenary of the death of the famous Poet. It was then revised and updated in its layout and with many additional images in the early 1900s and became the "New and revised Edition" of which this is a copy. Originally published in a softcover version this copy has been rebound(Peter Woodhead - Book-binders and Restorers, Hereford) and will ensure its long-term longevity.
The Volume contains the words and musical annotations for 106 of Burns songs interspersed with pencil drawings by a variety of artists. At the rear of the book are 32 pages of "Notes to the Songs" providing explanation on the origins and interpretations of the songs.
The Song book is stunningly illustrated throughout starting with a full page reproduction of The John Beugo engraving from 1787 with a facsimile of Burns' signature. As well as engravings there are many black and white photographs of places associated with the Poets life.
There is a full glossary at the end of the book.
