Synopsis
Sandy Stewart belonged to the ethnic group known to officialdom and the wider population as "Travellers" but also known as "Tinkers" even amongst their own. Born in Kirriemuir(Angus) in 1920 Stewart was a member of this "clannit Society" that had been on the road for centuries.
Between 1981 and 1983 Ethnologist Roger Leitch started making fieldwork recordings as an undergraduate at the University of Edinburgh working with the School of Scottish Studies. The main focus was around the unassuming man that was Sandy Stewart. As a result he produced this book creating Stewart's life story into a continuous narrative using the his own words. The result offers an authentic evocation of this little understood strand of Scottish Life.
