Synopsis
Scotticisms in Grammar and Vocabulary investigates the contributory factors which promoted increasing anglicisation in Late Modern Scots, leading to strenuous attempts to avoid pronunciations, syntactic forms and lexical items that were socially or geographically restricted. Despite these attempts, however, the influence of Scots and the distinctiveness of present-day Scottish English is still very much discernable.
