Sarah Parker (1824 – 1880) was born in Newry in what is now Northern Ireland however she lived most of her life in Scotland after emigrating to Ayr with her parents. She worked as a farm servant and started to publish poetry in the "Ayr Advertiser. The published poem on the 1844 Burns’ Festival brought her some recognition and she came to be known as "the Irish girl." She married a Scot, Dougal Douglas.

Condition Notes
The book is in good condition with good cover boards with just some rubbing of the gilt titles and front vignette and some minor white spots on the cover along with bumped corners and edges. The overall binding is remains strong and the pages clean and bright throughout. There is a prvious owner name place and year 1876 in hand-written ink on the inside over page.
