Synopsis
A month-by-month compilation of notes on sport and natural history in Moray between 1847 and 1853, based on the author's papers and with pen-and-ink sketches of his own. The work additionally has forty tissue-guarded etchings by George Reid R.S.A.,(1841–1913) and J. Wycliffe Taylor.
About the Author
Charles William George St. John was born in 1809 at Chailey, Sussex.
He was educated at Midhurst Grammar School before becoming a clerk in The Treasury. In 1834 he married the daughter of a rich banker in Newcastle and subsequently moved to the Scottish Highlands to Inverness, Nairn and finally to Moray where he raised his growing family. He died at Woolston, near Southampton, on the 22nd of July 1856
Condition Notes
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally fine with some fading to the spine and board edges, as is common with this edition. Bumping to the head and tail of spine with a small tear and slight fraying to the head of spine. Clear gilt titles and front vignette.
Inside the pages are bright with just the odd spots. All tissue guards present. Overall a very good copy. End papers with decorative etchings of ferns.
