Synopsis
First written and published in 1968 this is a seminal study of the Morvern (Gaelic: A' Mhorbhairne: the sea-gap) peninsula in Argyll.
Following on from the clearances and through the demise of the unprofitable sheep-farming and to the establishment of the "Sporting Estates" the author uses all the sources possible from estate papers, parochial registers, county records, census enumerations, diaries memoirs, photographs as well as his own field-work to paint a detailed picture of life in this small remote area of the west Highlands.
