Letters from Hamnavoe

The Short essays contained within this book by the famous Orcadian writer George Mackay brown were first published over the first half of the 1970s  in "The Orcadian" newspaper. 

The essays reflect both a nostalgia for what the author describes the "simpler and more meaningful community that Orkney used to be... as the outer world intruded all too successfully" into its silences and secrets.

The author describes in his introduction how this collection represents "walks out of doors in all weathers... where the sound of the sea is everywhere."
