Synopsis
A classic publication from 1981 which reveals to the uninitiated the stories behind the myth of Burns Night and its cultural importance whilst at the same time providing detailed instructions of how to host the perfect event in keeping with the now longstanding ceremonies.

- Help! Where do I start? Everything from finding a venue, menu printing, seating plans and speeches
- The Chairman. A description of the role and jobs associated with being the Supper Chairman
- Enter the Haggis. The central role of the Haggis to the evening's events including what makes a perfect Haggis and the all important address "To a Haggis"
- Interlude. The eating of the meal itself and then the coffee and smoking provide a break from the ceremonial.
- Immortal Memory. A speech by the Chairman with the aim of preserving the immortality of the great Bard
- The Other Speeches. Two other obligatory speeches are the "Toast to the Lassies" and its response. Others may be invited to speak the duration of which should not exceed 10 minutes
- Sangs and Clatter. The part of the supper dedicated to wee drams and merry songs and poetry.
- Time to Skail. How best to bring the evening to an end.
- The Morn's Morning. Taking stock of the success of the evening and the publicising of the event
- The apt Quotation. The importance of finding the right Burns quotation - the author provides some examples
- The Dram. Referring to Johnnie Walker who originated like Burns from Kilmarnock in Ayrshire and whose subsequent offspring were largely responsible for popularising Whiskey beyond Scotland.
- List of Suppliers. The best purveyors from where to source the necessary fair and accoutrements for the evening - White heather sprays, Haggis, lace tablecloths, kilts and accessories.
