The MacLeods were and are an important clan family spread across the Isle of Skye, Raasay and out to the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. The author traces their origins back to their Viking origins in Norway and covers all the descendants across the western Isles.
About the author:
Alexander Mackenzie (1838-1898) originally from Gairloch worked in various low paid jobs before finally settling in Inverness and opening a clothes shop: "Clach na Cudainn." It was here that he became deeply immersed in Gaelic Scotland becoming a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and a founder member of the Gaelic Society of Inverness. He was a prolific writer and wrote histories of many of the larger clan families: MacKenzies, MacDonalds, Camerons and the Macleods. He was deeply involved in the issue of Highland lands and acquired and rcorded in writing may of the stories and legends of North Scotland.
This copy is in excellent condition overall and any minor issues have been repaired. A full copy of repairs is available. Our intention is always to preserve the authenticity of our acquisitions and where possible we will clean and repair to ensure the book is both usable and preservable going forward. This is a rare copy and we are happy with its condition. There is some rubbing of the cover boards but otherwise the inside pages remain bright and clean throughout with just age-related tanning of the paper.
