Harpoon at a Venture

Immediately after the Second World War Gavin Maxwell  purchased the Isle of Soay off  the Isle of Skye with the aim of setting up a basking shark fishery. The project failed due principally to lack of finance and the isle was eventually sold to a business associate. Harpoon at a Venture is his tale of those years.

This is a rare 1st edition with an original un-clipped dustcover. Whilst the dustcover is largely intact and unstained it does have some loss and fraying notably around the top and bottom of the spine and along the edges and at the corners. There is a taped repair at the bottom of the spine area. Inside the pages are clean and tidy with some irregular spotting on a few pages. There are two previous owner names one with date 1952 on the inside spare title page and opposite.
