Described as "the last of the native Scholars" by Rev. William Matheson,  Dr John MacInnes (Iain MacAonghuis) was one of the most prominent figures of Gaelic scholarship the late 20th and early 21st century. Born in Uig, Lewis in 1930 he spent the best part of five decades recording the lore of tradition-bearers from all over Scotland and Canada.

This book is a collection of seminal articles which cover many aspects of life, history and literature in the Scottish Highlands, from the clan sagas, to clearances, from the supernatural to the poet Sorley Maclean (Somhairle MacGill-Eain).
