    Publisher's Synopsis:

First Published in 1910, this book formed the basis for all other works on the plants of the Island for the next 80 years. Murdoch McNeill, a Gaelic-speaking botanist, worked for a while at Kew Gardens before returning to his birth place in Colonsay. There he farmed at Garvard and later became Head Gardener and Estate Manager. Whilst running the garden at Colonsay House, famous for its exotic plant collection and particularly its Rhododendrons, he catalogued the native species of the island and collected other information and records. He was particularly interested  in preserving Gaelic names and traditional uses of the plants he found.
