Synopsis
This is the diary of a journey to the Tweed and beyond made by two Germans, Theodor Fontane and his friend Bernhard Von Lepel, in August 1858. Their Itinerary started in London with a train to Edinburgh then Linlithgow, Stirling, the Trossachs, Perth, over the Grampians to Inverness, down the still new Caledonian Canal to Fort William, Oban with a hop across to Iona and Staffa and finally by Crinan, Lochgilphead and the Clyde to Loch Lomond before returning to Glasgow and Edinburgh , Lochleven Castle and Melrose.
This edition was borrowed from the collected edition of Fontane's works published by Nymphenburger Verlagshandlung, Munich, 1963. Translated from the German by Brian Battershaw.
About the Author
Theodor Fontane (1819-1898) was a celebrated German poet, novelist and journalist, often regarded Germany's most important 19th-century Realist author. He was renowned for his ability to write about human relationships and social norms.
Condition Notes
A good overall copy of this edition with an original unclipped dustcover with just a few minor nicks on extremities and on the middle of the back. Inside the pages are bright and clean throughout. There is a previous owner dedication, location and date in ink on the inside free page.
