Synopsis
In the preface the author makes it clear that the original object of this work was to describe the structure of Edinburgh's Arthur's Seat and the Pentland Hills but that at in the end it was desirable to show the connection of these with the geological formations of the neighbouring districts between the Ochil (to the north) and the Lammermuir Hills (to the south) and so in the end presents a detailed study of the whole of the lower Forth basin.
About the Author
Charles Maclaren (born Oct. 7, 1782, Ormiston, Haddington, Scot.—died Sept. 10, 1866, near Edinburgh) was both a renowned political commentator and Scientist (specialist in Geology). His main contribution to 19th century Scotland was as the key founder and Editor of the independent liberal newspaper "The Scotsman" in1817.
Condition Notes
A fine copy of this second edition with clean decorated cover boards with gilt titles with just some light folding at the top and bottom of the spine. Inside the pages are bright and clean throughout with some minor foxing. The six colour plates and maps are all present and clean.
