  • Synopsis

One of the first works that as the author clearly states out in his Prefatory has for aim to be "a guide, or help to a knowledge of the origin of the more popular poems and songs of the Poet, as well as to incidents and events past and present, directly or indirectly connected with his life, his name and fame.

The author has put into brief, concise sketches and arranged in alphabetical order, after the familiar "who's-who" method.

An interesting feature of the book is the end-papers, which are outline maps of the Burns country in Scotland, on which are marked all the places associated with the poet and his friends.
