Synopsis
The author Robert Pate is essentially interested in ensuring that the true linguistic and phonetic aspects of Burns' poems are preserved and this book is an attempt to ensure that the reader and more importantly the reciter uses the correct pronunciation of the Scotch( pronounced Scoatch) rendering the poetry. In his introduction he points out that whilst Burns mixed both English and Scotch he would have pronounced the English words in the Scottish fashion; so Scotland would be pronounced "Scoatlun" or Scots would be pronounced "Scoatch."
